Steve Hudson is a pianist/composer whose eclectic musical projects include styles such as jazz, indie, chamber music, and world music projects. He is based out of New York City where he performs in addition to doing concerts in Canada and Europe.
He started playing at 10 years old when his family moved into a home where they had left a piano in Albany New York. He was immediately drawn to the instrument. Thanks to his art teacher at school, James Reed, he started learning a boogie woogie style of playing and played along with the records of Ray Charles, Jerry Lee Lewis, Three Dog Night, and others. Years later he studied with John Nazarenko, Garry Dial, Barry Harris, Stanley Cowell, Marjean Olson, and Kenny Barron.
Over the years Steve was drawn into a wide spectrum of styles including the music of Astor Piazolla, JS Bach, James Brown, Fela Kuti, and such as jazz greats as Ahmad Jamal, Oscar Peterson, Kenny Barron, and Miles Davis. Luckilly he met musicians who cared about making music rather than a particular style of music. Embracing a spirit of "let's just make music," musicans such as David Freeman, Mark Dejong, Mike Noordzy, and Tom Buckelew created the Outer Bridge Ensemble as a way of exploring and getting beyond our boundaries as musicians.
Steve currently collaborates with Claire Daly, Steven Bernstein, Marcus Rojas, James Zollar, Mark DeJong, Oscar Noriega, Jerome Jennings, David Freeman, Mike Noordzy, Pascal Niggenkemper, Achille Succi, vocalist Peter Eldridge, and many others on a variety of musical projects.
